More than a hundred years after Brubeck’s birth\, the Brubeck Brothers unite with nationally acclaimed saxophonist Sharel Cassity to pay tribute to the legendary pianist and bandleader.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”davebrubeckseatmap”][vc_column]ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION[vc_tta_accordion section_title_tag=”h2″ style=”flat” gap=”3″ active_section=”0″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”ABOUT THE ARTISTS” tab_id=”1693319199255-e86b10cd-a331d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbea864-7f85″][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]CHRIS AND DAN BRUBECK have been making music together practically all their lives.  Drummer Dan and bassist\, trombonist\, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966—nearly a half century ago. They’ve subsequently played a variety of styles in a number of different groups\, as well as with their father\, jazz giant Dave Brubeck\, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. With Dan and Chris as the foundation\, guitarist MIKE DeMICCO and pianist CHUCK LAMB\, complete this dynamic quartet.  They perform at concert series\, colleges\, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe including the Newport\, Detroit\, Montreal\, Playboy/Hollywood Bowl\, and Monterey Jazz Festivals.   \nThe Quartet’s last cd\, TimeLine\, celebrated Dave Brubeck’s famous 1958 State Department tour.  The CD received extensive airplay in major jazz markets across America and was a hit on the Jazz Week radio charts for five months.  The CD garnered dozens of stellar reviews\, among them Dr. Judith Schlesinger of AllAboutJazz who wrote of TimeLine\, “An exciting ride. These are magnificent players whose years together have forged a seasoned and well-oiled musical unit… Their joy in this playing\, and each other\, is audible.  Apart from its historic value—this is an exciting and varied outing\, recorded crisply and with great warmth. The ‘Timeline’ it reflects is not just in years\, but also in a legacy which—lucky for all of us—continues its powerful forward movement today.”  \n These versatile musicians also collaborate with orchestras all across the U.S. as well as internationally. With Chris Brubeck’s compositions as a vehicle\, the BBQ has performed with chamber/orchestral groups such as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra\, the Philadelphia Orchestra\, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.  \nAlthough the Quartet’s style is rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz\, their concerts reveal an inherent ability to explore and play odd time signatures while naturally integrating the influences of funk\, blues and world music. The group’s creativity\, technique and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music\, which reflects their dedication to melody\, rhythm\, culture and the spontaneous spirit of jazz. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50″][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Saxophonist\, composer and educator SHAREL CASSITY is a nationally acclaimed saxophonist prominent in the New York and Chicago jazz scenes. Named “Rising Star Alto Saxophone” of 2023 in Downbeat Magazine with a cover story\, Sharel has appeared on The Today Show\,  Good Morning America\, and The Colbert Show; she is in the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame; and is a recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award. \nSharel has worked with multi-Grammy Award-winning artists Jennifer Hudson\, Natalie Merchant\, Aretha Franklin\, Vanessa Williams\, & Trisha Yearwood among others. She has also performed alongside NEA Jazz Masters as well as Grammy Award-winning artists Herbie Hancock\, Wynton Marsalis\, Roy Hargrove\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Jimmy Heath\, and Christian McBride. \nSharel has been a featured guest soloist with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. As a bandleader\, her five albums have received top-rated reviews in publications like  The Chicago Tribune\, The New York Times\, JazzTimes\, Jazziz\, Downbeat\, American Indian News\, as well as a cover feature on Saxophone Journal. \nSharel earned a Master’s Degree under full scholarship at Juilliard in NYC\, and gives back to the next generation by teaching at DePaul University and Elgin Community College. Sharel is a current member of the Dizzy Gillespie Afro Latin Experience\, Nicholas Payton’s TSO\, and the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band\, and runs her record label “Relsha Music.” Sharel is the director of her non-profit educational program “Jazz Up\,” and is a proud  Yamaha and Vandoren Performing Artist.  \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”LINKS” tab_id=”1693319199265-12d1aca6-b957d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbea864-7f85″]FacebookYoutubeSpotify[/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h2″ css=”.vc_custom_1689884969418{margin-bottom: 80px !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1689884027118{background-color: #f8f8f8 !important;}”][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus” color=”#000000″]\nThank you to our 2023/2024 Season Partner G&J Pepsi. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” css=”.vc_custom_1686333363490{margin-bottom: 70px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/F1wzrJYy-ks”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h3″][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” el_id=”accessibility”][vc_column]ACCESSIBILITYPlease note that the Norton Center is a historic venue with limited accessible seating. This duel-threat ability was recognized by the 2022 Downbeat Critics Poll where he appeared as not only the #2 Rising Star Male Vocalist\, but a top Rising Star Trumpeter as well. His superb intonation and bracing virtuosity enable him to handle astounding feats of originally composed vocalese (complex solos with written lyrics). On top of it all\, he’s a highly capable pianist as well.  \nBenny has performed internationally as an Emcee/Host for the Youtube sensation Postmodern Jukebox\, and achieved his own viral success amassing millions of views for his crooning alongside the Grammy-award winning “8-Bit Big Band”. In early 2020 he released A Lot of Livin’ to Do\, the follow-up to his well-received 2017 debut One of a Kind. This sophomore effort\, richly varied in mood and brimming with bop inflection\, features bassist extraordinaire and Jazz ambassador Christian McBride (whose Grammy-award winning Big Band frequently calls upon Benny in the trumpet section) and drummer/producer Ulysses Owens\, Jr.\, as well as the radiant Takeshi Ohbayashi on piano and Rhodes. His vocalese duet on “Social Call” from this album alongside fellow young star vocalist Veronica Swift became an instant smash hit single\, being transcribed and learned by Jazz vocalists around the world. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]2021 JUNO Award winner Jocelyn Gould has been called “a leader in the next generation of great mainstream jazz guitarists” by Howard Paul\, CEO of Benedetto Guitars. Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance while incorporating the latest technology\, Mathis creates his own musical style influenced by his multi-national background. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music in London and New York’s prestigious Juilliard School\, he has earned the respect of his peers and elders alike as a creative\, supportive and individual sideman and bandleader. Lewandowski has also performed frequently as a member of Pulitzer Prize winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis’ quartet including performances in such esteemed venues and festivals as London’s Barbican Hall\, Cheltenham Festival and The Institute of Peace\, Washington D.C. Mark’s work as a bandleader include two releases\, Waller (2017)\, an exploration of the music of one of the early innovators of the jazz genre\, Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller\, and Under One Sky (2021)\, comprised of exclusively original material. Lewandowski’s unique and personal compositional style is at the foreground of this album which was described by the UK’s renowned critic\, John Fordham (The Guardian\, Jazzwise Magazine) as ‘a sublime confection on compositional class and individual improv skill.”[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Charles Goold is one of New York City’s hardest working jazz drummers of his generation.  Born to an American jazz saxophonist father and a Haitian immigrant mother\, Goold has used these influences to shape his voice and message in the jazz community. After a short-lived pursuance in collegiate track and field at Temple University\, studying communications\, Goold transferred to the Berklee College of Music where\, unfortunately\, after one semester\, he had to withdraw for financial reasons.  Deciding not give up on his dream of becoming a jazz musician\, Goold moved back to New York City at the age of 19 and began playing in any musical situation possible. Finding success after years of hard work through teaching and performing\, Goold auditioned and received a full scholarship\, subsequently graduating from the Juilliard School along with being awarded the JCAF grant. Goold has performed with a wide variety of acts across varying styles from Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, John Hendricks and Johnny O’neal to rap icons Cam’ron\, Talib Kweli\, and Ghostface Killah.  Goold uses these experiences to propel the sound of his group Nubopcity\, a blend of hard bop\, hip hop\, funk and Afro-Caribbean influences.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”LINKS” tab_id=”1693319199265-12d1aca6-b957d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbe3215-263d”]FacebookInstagramSpotify[/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h2″ css=”.vc_custom_1689884969418{margin-bottom: 80px !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1689884027118{background-color: #f8f8f8 !important;}”][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus” color=”#000000″]\nThank you to our 2023/2024 Season Partner G&J Pepsi. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ el_id=”singseatmap”][vc_column]SELECT YOUR SEATS[vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]\nPlease click on the seats you would like to purchase (maximum 8 tickets per order).
