Hailed as one of the world’s premier brass ensembles\, this group blends classical\, jazz\, folk and pop with sketch comedy\, silly songs and side-splitting buffoonery on their trumpets\, trombones\, French horn and tuba. Mnozil Brass takes its name from Gasthaus Mnozil\, a restaurant across the street from the Vienna Conservatory\, where seven young music students met and began playing at a monthly open mic in 1992. 30 years later\, Mnozil Brass performs for sold-out houses around the world. Jubilee\, its 2023 album on Universal\, cheekily pays tribute and celebrates Mnozil Brass’s greatest hits and new works. \n\nThomas Gansch\, trumpet \nRobert Rother\, trumpet \nRoman Rindberger\, trumpet \nLeonhard Paul\, trombone & bass trumpet \nGerhard Füßl\, trombone \nZoltan Kiss\, trombone \nWilfried Brandstötter\, tuba \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]PROGRAM[vc_tta_accordion section_title_tag=”h2″ style=”flat” gap=”3″ active_section=”0″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”ABOUT THE BAND” tab_id=”1693319199255-e86b10cd-a331d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbed118-f939″][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]MNOZIL BRASS has established itself as one of the world’s premier brass ensembles. With over 130 performances a year\, the group has sold out houses from the farthest reaches of the European continent to Israel\, China\, Taiwan\, Japan\, Australia\, Canada\, and the United States\, and has captivated audiences with their blend of immense virtuosity and theatrical wit. No wonder their videos have garnered millions of YouTube views and their fans have travelled countless miles to hear them play.  \nThe group’s recent returns to North America were hailed as “seriously funny” and “whimsically brazen.” Their shows include Yes! Yes! Yes!\, which blends original compositions with classical favorites\, jazz standards\, and popular hits; Cirque\, where the musicians combat the monkey business of daily life with music and humor\, and transform the stage into a musical flea circus; Gold\, showcasing their greatest hits; and their latest Jubliee\, which celebrates their 30 years together with new works and Mnozil Brass favorites. A recording of Jubilee will be released in 2023 on Universal. As always\, the repertoire is presented with the group’s iconic humour and wit in scenes so clever that they would be worthy of Monty Python.   \nMnozil Brass take their name from the “Gasthaus Mnozil\,” a restaurant across the street from the Vienna Conservatory\, where\, in 1992\, seven young brass musicians met and began playing at a monthly open-mic. Since then\, the group has embraced repertoire for all ages and stages of life: from folk to classical to jazz to pop; all executed with the same fearlessness\, immense technical skill\, and typical Viennese “schmäh” (almost impossible to find an English translation\, but best rendered as a kind of sarcastic charm!).   \nIn their time away from touring\, Mnozil Brass has recorded 8 albums and 6 DVDs. They’ve collaborated on three operetta and opera productions\, and composed and recorded the music for the 2006 film “Freundschaft.” The group has been nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award and won the prestigious Salzburger Stier Cabaret Prize in 2006.  [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”ABOUT THE ARTISTS” tab_id=”1739907811886-2adcbbcb-ff6b”][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Thomas Gansch | Born in Melk an der Donau\, Thomas is one of the band’s founding members. By the time he turned the tender age of 17\, he was already playing at the Vienna State Opera. However\, his love of jazz was stronger\, and led him to become one of the most versatile trumpeters in Austria\, one who can play jazz\, classical\, crossover and everything in between. He is a whirlwind on stage and can tell a good joke or two\, as well. When he has time off\, he composes for Mnozil Brass.  \n  \n  \n  \nRobert Rother | Like Thomas\, Robert also hails from Melk an der Donau. As children\, the two of them played in a brass band conducted by Thomas’s very strict father. Polkas\, waltzes\, and marches were always on the program – a good learning experience\, it seems! Now\, Robert can engender a tone with so much longing and feeling that it is guaranteed to bring anyone to tears. Unlike Thomas\, Robert hardly moves on stage at all and lets the music speak for itself.  \n  \n  \n  \nRoman Rindberger | Roman was born into a musical family and played folk music as a youngster with his father and two brothers. His father Hans\, in turn\, would meet up with Gerhard Füßl’s father Franz because the families lived nearby. Roman loves technical passages and renders them with the precision of a Swiss clockmaker. And he even knows how the instruments work! If anyone wants to know more about brass music\, Roman is the man for you. On stage\, his character is the Latin Lover. \n  \n  \n  \nLeonhard Paul | Leonhard was born in Mödling near Vienna and is the first musician his family has ever produced. (Though there was a grandfather who earned his money as a painter and whose pictures hang in every other house in the better parts of Vienna!) Recently\, the other members of the band have started to get a little concerned about him because he seems to have taken a liking to shady characters on stage. Everyone wants to play the hero\, but Leonhard likes roles that show the darker side of man. No one knows exactly what’s going on in his head!  \n  \n  \n  \nGerhard Füßl | Gerhard grew up near where Roman lived\, and also had a father who taught him a lot about brass music. He is the most well-liked in the group. Probably because he looks after the financial matters. Everyone tries to keep on his good side\, and no one wants to incur his wrath. For his part\, he is usually friendly to all.  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nZoltan Kiss | Austrian folk music was certainly not part of Zoltan’s upbringing. He was born in Budapest\, spent some time in Poland\, and finally settled in Vienna\, where he plays trombone in four languages. One of the group’s favorite games is to put some really difficult music in front of him and see if he can play it. He usually can! His technical skills take your breath away. Bets have been placed as to when and how something will be written that he can not master\, but\, so far\, high\, low\, slow\, fast\, he can play it all!  \n  \n  \n  \nWilfried Brandstötter | He started his stellar career playing the recorder\, subsequently joining the boys’ choir. After that\, it was the violin\, followed by the trumpet\, before finally feeling comfortable and at ease with the tuba. So\, speed is not quite his business. To him\, life is a slow and wide river. His ambition consists of making all concert halls\, including the audience seated herein\, feel the pleasant vibrations he’s producing with the help of low tones from his tuba. He does not understand how people get thrilled by fast\, high-pitched melodies.  \n  \n  \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”LINKS” tab_id=”1693319199265-12d1aca6-b957d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbed118-f939″]FacebookInstagramYoutube[/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ css=”.vc_custom_1722439284714{margin-bottom: 60px !important;}” el_id=”Tickets”][vc_column]SELECT YOUR SEATS[vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Please click on the seats you would like to purchase (maximum 8 tickets per order). That performance marked the beginning of 64 years of unrivaled creativity\, and in the decades that followed\, Mr. Taylor became a cultural icon and one of American history’s most celebrated artists\, and was part of the pantheon that created American modern dance. Leading the Company that bears his name until his death in 2018\, Mr. Taylor molded it into one of the preeminent performing ensembles in the world. Under the artistic direction of Taylor alumnus Michael Novak\, the Company continues to bring “America’s most communicative and wildly theatrical modern dance” to audiences and students around the world\, with a yearly residency at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. \nThe Company currently resides in the Lower East Side of Manhattan but sustains a global presence through its robust touring programs. Since its first European tour in 1960\, the Company has performed in more than 600 cities in 66 countries\, representing the United States at arts festivals in more than 40 countries and touring extensively under the aegis of the U.S. Department of State. Dedicated to sharing modern dance with the broadest possible audience\, the Company tours annually\, both domestically and internationally\, with performances and a variety of educational programs and engagement offerings. Recent tours have brought the Company to Argentina\, Brazil\, Chile\, China\, Ecuador\, Germany\, Italy\, Oman\, Peru\, Switzerland\, Taiwan\, and Turkey\, as well as scores of cities within the United States.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”LINKS” tab_id=”1693319199265-12d1aca6-b957d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbebe67-ce35″]FacebookInstagramYoutube[/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ css=”.vc_custom_1722439235469{margin-bottom: 60px !important;}” el_id=”Tickets”][vc_column]SELECT YOUR SEATS[vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Please click on the seats you would like to purchase (maximum 8 tickets per order). Bluegrass and American Folk music originated from the group’s home\, and now JigJam is here to take it back!  \nJigJam made its Grand Ole Opry Debut in Nashville in March 2023 to critical acclaim\, receiving a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd on the biggest stage in country music. The group was joined that night by Garth Brooks\, Trisha Yearwood\, Steve Earle\, Lauren Alaina and many more. This Offaly and Tipperary-born band has started the first wave of attack in the new Irish invasion of Americana.  \n‘Foot stomping’\, ‘high energy’ bad-assery is what you’re in for when you see this musical powerhouse live in concert.   \nFounding members Offaly Jamie McKeogh (Lead singer and guitar) and Daithi Melia (5 String Banjo and Dobro) were joined by Tipperary-born Gavin Strappe (Mandolin and Tenor Banjo) in 2016. This year\, they are joined by Kevin Buckley (Fiddle) to make up this iGrass (Irish Bluegrass) quartet.  \nDescribed as “The best Irish band in bluegrass” and “sparkling\, infectious\,” these lads have been hailed as “Ireland’s answer to New Grass Revival.” Bluegrass has its roots in Irish music and Irish immigration. iGrass and JigJam is what happens when the Irish find their prodigal son.  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”ABOUT THE ARTISTS” tab_id=”1740774474708-c5a85c3a-4a06″][vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]JAMIE McKEOGH was born and raised in Durrow near Tullamore\, Co. Offaly. From a very young age\, he had a keen interest in music\, having been strongly influenced by his mother\, a music teacher. He began taking tuition on guitar and fiddle at five years of age and progressed to playing the banjo and mandolin. A winner of four All Ireland Titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann\, Jamie has also been a member of the Comhaltas tour of Ireland and the UK. Graduating with a B.Sc. in Physiotherapy from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland\, Jamie has now chosen to pursue a career in music. Along with being a member of JigJam\, he has toured worldwide with various groups such as Celtic Legends. Jamie is well known for his rhythmic guitar playing\, vocal versatility and accomplished banjo solos. His influences include John Doyle\, Chris Thile and Gerry O’Connor. \n  \nDAITHI MELIA hails from Co. Offaly. He is a multi-instrumentalist who studied Contemporary Music Performance at the Ballyfermot College of Further Education. During this time he explored various styles and genres of music and honed his skill on the guitar and the 5-string banjo. He performed with many bands of various genres in popular venues throughout Ireland and has since toured around the world with several acts. Daithi is also a seasoned session musician\, featured on various artists’ records and has been highly involved in the arrangement and writing process of other singer-songwriter projects. He has created his own unique style of 5-string banjo playing\, forging the different stylistic approaches of traditional Irish and Bluegrass music together while also still adding his own contemporary influences along with jazz and blues. \n  \nGAVIN STRAPPE was born in South Tipperary and began playing the Tenor Banjo at the age of ten. It was at this stage that Gavin developed a huge passion for Irish music and also began to play Mandolin and Tenor Guitar. This resulted in Gavin enjoying much success at Fleadh Cheol competitions\, winning numerous competitions at county\, provincial and All-Ireland levels. At the age of eighteen\, he became Senior All-Ireland champion on both Mandolin and Tenor Guitar. In 2009\, he commenced a Bachelor of Music degree at DIT National Conservatoire of Music and Drama\, graduating in 2013 with First-Class Honours in Music Performance. In 2014\, he completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Limerick and graduated with an honours degree in Music Education. Gavin has toured extensively around the world with numerous bands and ensembles\, including shows such as Brú Ború and Celtic Legends as well as headlining numerous North American festivals with JigJam. \n  \nSt. Louis native KEVIN BUCKLEY is a product of the city’s thriving Irish-American community. Raised playing Irish Traditional fiddle music alongside his father Jack on the uilleann pipes\, Buckley toured and competed nationally and internationally with St. Louis Irish Arts CCE\, earning a few titles along the way.  In addition to a years-long residency at John D. In this physically impressive and touching creation\, duo Agathe Bisserier and Adrien Malette-Chénier push the limits and expectations of their own bodies and gender norms.   \nRecent graduates of the famed Circus School of Québec\, Agathe and Adrien have developed a unique\, highly physical circus and dance vocabulary. The duo has worked with renowned cirque companies on European tours and circus festivals worldwide. \nN.Ormes will challenge you to question your own assumptions through a touching and intimate journey that will move you with a perfect blend of tears and laughter. \nRecommended for ages 17 and older. So\, they turned towards independent circus creations presented in Quebec\, including Branché\, Piece of Mind\, Interact\, and N.Ormes.  \n Tired of the obsolete and toxic patterns of male/female relationships present in the circus world today\, the duo combines the codes of circus\, contemporary dance and performance art to create a rich\, complex acrobatic language\, as a part of a feminist approach to redefining standards.  \n  \nDirection and interpretation: Agathe Bisserier and Adrien Malette-Chénier  \nLighting conception: Claire Seyller  \nMusical composition: Simon Leoza  \nCostume conception: Sophie El Assad  \nOutside Eyes – Choreography: Stacey Desilier  \nOutside Eyes – Dramaturgy: Agathe Foucault\, Stéphane Crête. \nCo-produced by Acting for Climate – Montreal [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”LINKS” tab_id=”1693319199265-12d1aca6-b957d3d4-3651d927-88d77692-edbe9318-c9b8″]FacebookInstagramYoutube[/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ css=”.vc_custom_1722439163719{margin-bottom: 60px !important;}” el_id=”Tickets”][vc_column]SELECT YOUR SEATS[vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus”]Please click on the seats you would like to purchase (maximum 8 tickets per order). With the fierceness of a rocker and the grace of a dancer\, she weaves her own distinctive versions of well-known pieces with original compositions that are as far-ranging as her musical tastes. \nTaimane\, a hapa Sāmoan artist (part indigenous Sāmoan and part Caucasian) born and raised in Hawai‘i\, has established herself as an artist-to-watch\, wowing audiences and listeners around the world while raking in one accolade after another and garnering a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award as Favorite Entertainer of the Year in 2019 and 2023. \nFrom sold-out shows across the U.S. to Europe\, Taimane’s live performances have become must-see events. The same can be said of her videos\, which have been viewed well over 50 million times and helped earn Taimane over 500\,000 online followers.\n \n“If you didn’t know ukulele virtuosity is a thing\, get on board. Taimane is not just in her own league on the instrument… she’s a masterful songwriter and interpreter. Ukulele\, meet your triple threat” – Grammy.com \nView the program.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ css=”.vc_custom_1689962444644{margin-bottom: 80px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YgYXHrDiuk”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h3″ css=”.vc_custom_1746040497722{margin-top: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f8f8 !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1746040531115{margin-right: 20px !important;margin-left: 10px !important;}”]BEFORE YOU ARRIVE [vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus” css=”.vc_custom_1746042820037{margin-right: 20px !important;}”]The Norton Center is located on Centre College’s campus in historic downtown Danville\, Kentucky. Poulenc’s dramatic 1943 Sonata opens the evening\, followed by earthmaker\, a unique 2020 composition by inti figgis-vizueta\, and Szymanowski’s dreamy\, impressionistic Mythes (1915). The charming and narrative Petite Suite de Concert and selections from Fauré’s expressive and refined second violin Sonata round out the program. \nMeltzer will be accompanied by Umi Garrett on piano. \nView the program.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h1″ css=”.vc_custom_1689962444644{margin-bottom: 80px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vId_pD_buYY”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true” local_scroll_id=”h3″ css=”.vc_custom_1746040497722{margin-top: 40px !important;background-color: #f8f8f8 !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1746040531115{margin-right: 20px !important;margin-left: 10px !important;}”]BEFORE YOU ARRIVE [vc_column_text font_family=”Copernicus” css=”.vc_custom_1746042820037{margin-right: 20px !important;}”]The Norton Center is located on Centre College’s campus in historic downtown Danville\, Kentucky.
