Jam out with classic rock legends and experience a mesmerizing musical mashup unlike anything you’ve heard before as April brings musical diversity to Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts.
With the kind of showmanship that only comes from decades of experience, The Guess Who rock n’ rolls its way onto the Newlin Hall stage on April 14. The performance is guaranteed to feature a night of high-energy, sing-along-worthy hits that will leave the audience feeling nostalgic and thoroughly entertained.
Captivating fans since the 1960s with hits like “American Woman,” “These Eyes,” and “No Sugar Tonight,” their music has remained popular for decades and continues to inspire new generations of rock fans.
“The Guess Who is an iconic band,” said Norton Center Executive Director Steve Hoffman. “When I recently listened to their greatest hits album, I was surprised by how many classic rock songs they wrote and performed. You will find yourself singing along or playing air guitar throughout the entire evening.”
Trade in your electric guitar for a banjo as genre-bending musical virtuosos Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain (tabla), Edgar Meyer (double bass) and Rakesh Chaurasia (bansuri) bring their unique sound to the Norton Center on April 27.
With a repertoire that blends elements of jazz, classical, bluegrass and world music, the group will present an unforgettable fusion of electrifying sound and style to the Newlin Hall audience.
The quartet has 12 Grammy wins and 47 nominations among them, and their latest album As We Speak, out May 12, not only showcases the group’s breathtaking abilities as instrumentalists but also underscores the wide range of influences at their command.
“When Kentuckians think of Béla Fleck, who lived in Lexington for a number of years, they might first think of bluegrass,” Hoffman says about the upcoming show. “But Fleck has proven over and over again that he is so much more versatile than one type of music. His work with the Flecktones is jammy fusion and he has written orchestral works for the Nashville Symphony. We are thrilled that he will be releasing a much-awaited new album with Hussain, Meyer, and Chaurasia to follow up their Grammy-nominated first album.”
