Student Spotlight: Kevin Sivakumar

During his freshman year of high school, Kevin Sivakumar borrowed his father’s camera and began to shoot. Seven years later, Kevin’s photography portfolio includes Norton Center performances ranging from Momix’s fantastical illusionist dancing to the classical melodies of Yo-Yo Ma.

Coming to Centre College from Pune, India, Kevin is currently studying math and data science- but he continues to pursue his passion for creativity.

During his junior year, he accepted the Marketing Intern position at the Norton Center.

“When they said they really needed a photographer, I was super excited. I’ve always been interested in taking pictures of theatre and music productions, and when the job posting came out, I thought, ‘great, now is my chance to start,’” Kevin shared.

Throughout his internship, Kevin has photographed a diverse collection of performances including Yo-Yo Ma, Momix, Eric Owens, and Step Afrika. Some artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma, even used Kevin’s photos on social media.

Taking photographs wasn’t the only thing about the Norton Center that appealed to Kevin; the variety of opportunities was compelling to him.

“There’s a little bit for everyone- ushering, box office, digital content and photography, there’s avenues for all of that,” said Kevin. “You can always get involved in whichever aspect interests you.

Kevin graduates in the spring of 2023 with a double major in math and data science.
