Student Spotlight: Rachel Matherly

Growing up, Rachel Matherly’s mother would take her daughter to see concerts, performances, and broadway shows. These beloved memories fostered a love for the arts in Rachel, and eventually influenced her to apply for a job at the Norton Center.

A Danville local, Rachel is a senior at Centre College with a math and data science double major and a Spanish minor. During her freshman year, she decided to apply for a job at the Norton Center.

“Since I was little, my mom would take me to see shows at the Kentucky Center in Louisville…I just loved the whole experience and atmosphere,” Rachel shared. “I was also involved with the band at my high school, so I have a high appreciation for music. All of these factors combined led me to apply to work at the Norton Center.”

Throughout the last 3.5 years, Rachel has been able to attend a diverse range of performances and connect with people beyond the Centre community.

“People from all over with different interests come together at the Norton Center to share their appreciation for arts,” she said, “and that’s pretty awesome.”

Rachel graduates in the spring of 2023 and plans to attend graduate to study accounting and become a CPA.
